Kelvingrove Museum Weapons Trip

 

Finally .. The pictures from my trip to Glasgow make it up onto the web. Details are scant as the Museum didn't provide a catalogue and still have not sent the weights and dates as promised......

We start with the first of several racks of rapiers. (Apologies for picture quality)

All Measurements are :Overall Length , Blade + Ricasso, Blade only, Balance point from end of pommel.(in inches)

1.Mid 16th C. Cut and Thrust Sword .Very broad blade(approx 1 1/2 inch).Single fuller (Measurements lost!!!)

2.German Late 16th C. Rapier .O 53", B+R 46", B 44", Bal 14".Daimond section blade.

3.Rapier 3rd Quarter 16th C. O 51.5" , B+R 44.5", B 42",Bal 12".

4. Rapier, Last Quarter 16th C. O 50.5" ,B+R 44.5" ,B 42", Bal 10.5" Narrower flattened diamond section blade.

5. Cut and Thrust Sword , Early Mid 16th C. O 47", B+R 41", B 39", Bal 11" .Simple double ring hilt. Cruciform blade section.
