The Internet hosts a vast and complex array of information. However, access to that information is not available equally to everyone. In most parts of America, for example, users enjoy almost free access via unmetered telephone lines. Consequently they can afford to stay connected for long periods and visit websites at will. In many other countries, including the UK, users have to pay the telephone company for every second that they are on-line and so they can only afford to connect for short periods of time in order to access the web. Such people can get rather frustrated when they request information which could so easily be sent via email, but are constantly referred to a website, especially when they are not referred to the source of the information, but a URL several clicks removed.
Whilst we accept that the main purpose of many websites is to give out information, quite often those with easy access do not realise the problems they sometime unwittingly create for those without continuous connection.
The purpose of the pages on this site is, on the one hand, to provide some information about access problems for the enlightment of those without such problems. Further though the aim is to offer guidance on how to access the web more expediently, how to design web pages to give as many people as possible access to them and how to use email more effectively.
A number of pages covering these and related areas of interest will be added here over the coming months.
To begin with these pages may be a little haphazard as we gather material together. In due course we will try and organise the arrangement more efficiently.
We intend to add information about offline readers, free ISPs, free web-page providers, email forwarding and other topics. We also hope to compare the costs and ease of accessibility in various countries. We hope to be able to offer more content than just links to other sites and sources of information.
