What do we do?

The bureau provides a generalist service where anyone can visit or telephone for free advice and information on any subject. The advice provided is independent, confidential, and impartial to everybody regardless of race, gender, sexuality or disability.

The trained bureau staff, who are mainly volunteers, give advice to over 4,000 people each year on a broad range of subjects including money matters, relationships, housing, consumer issues, benefits, education, health and employment. It can also offer specialist help with financial problems and represent clients, where necessary, at social security tribunals.
