Saints Preserve Us
Iain Dowie
The only ex-Saints hotshot whose look could curdle milk, Dowie finally won over his critics a fortnight before he moved to Crystal Palace. Generally known for his ability to head the ball in any direction except goalwards, he was part of Ian Branfoot's master strike force. Enough said. Best Moment : That awful cross against Man City which sailed inevitably wide of all the Saints forwards and somehow found its way under the cross-bar to provide a rare away win (back in the days of The Big Match on ITV). The commentary team were beside themselves describing this as a "glorious chip". . . but we knew better. |
