1/8th SCALE OVAL RACING - TECHNICAL PAGE.

HERE YOU WILL FIND TECHNICAL DETAILS RELATING TO 1/8th SCALE OVAL RACING.

THIS WILL INCLUDE 1/8th SCALE STOCKCAR CONSTRUCTION RULES,and RACE PROCEEDURES.

I HAVE ALSO INCLUDED SOME NEW LINKS,(06/JUNE/99), TO ENGINES OF INTEREST TO OUR SPORT.

PLUS BODY SHELLS, AND DECALS USED ON MY NEW EUROVAL CAR!


CONSTRUCTION RULES

                            CONSTRUCTION RULES - B.R.C.A.

1)  Models are to be 1/8th the scale, and a reasonable reproduction of a full sized
 BRISCA Formula One Stock Car(Note - "reasonable reproduction",means body shell must 
 not have wheel covers, or go over the side bumpers.)
2)  Overall length to be between  - 410mm (16 1/8ins. nominal), and
                                    450mm (17 3/4ins. nominal)
3)  Overall width to be between   - 210mm ( 8 1/4ins. nominal), and
                                    240mm ( 9 7/16ins.nominal)
4) The wheel base to be any length, providing the wheels are kept within the confines
 of the existing chassis designed to length.- (currently 410mm minimum and 450 maximum)
 Main chassis rails, bumpers and overriders must be constructed of steel.
5)  Front and rear bumpers must be fitted and with a contact surface of 12.7mm
(2 1/4ins.)
  - between the bumper centre line, and the ground, the distance must be between
                                  - 38.10mm (1 1/2ins),and
                                    57.15mm (2 1/4ins)
  All bumpers,nerf bars and chassis rail ends must be plugged, and have no sharp edges.
6)  Overriders must be fitted to the front and rear bumpers. The height from the top of 
 the bumper must be   - FRONT     - 25.40mm (1 ins.), to
                                  - 44.45mm (1 3/4ins.)  
                      - REAR      - 25.40mm (1 ins.) maximum. 
7)  Nerf bars/side skirts, must be on the same level as the bumpers, and have a maximum
  contact surface of              - 12.70mm (1/2 ins.), and
                      minimum of  -  6.35mm (1/4 ins.)
  - and may project beyond the outer edges of the wheels.
 Side skirts may be fitted to the nerf bars, as long as they are made of plastic, and
 are set back from the contact area of the nerf bar.
 Nerf bars/side skirts over       - 12.70mm (1/2 ins.) are not allowed.
8)  Tyres may have: Diameter      - 82.55mm (3 1/4 ins) maximum.
  - Tyre Diameter is measured at the centre of the tread.
  - Width:                        - 35.00mm (1 3/8 ins.) nominal
9)  The height of the body, is to be measured from its highest point, to the ground,
 and to be a minimum of           - 133.2mm (5 1/4 ins.), excluding aerofoils.
10) Aerofoils, if fitted must be made of plastic, without sharp edges. Fixings..eg.
 screws, pop rivets, bolts etc. may be used.
 Maximum area to be               - 36 sq.ins.
 Maximum width to be              -  6 ins.
 Maximum depth to be              -  6 ins.
 - and must not extend beyond the outer edge of the car.
11) Roof fins are optional, if used they must be made of plastic.
12) Maximum weight to be          - 3.9  kilos (8lb 9 1/2oz) 
 Minimum weight to be             - 2.72 kilos (6lb.)
 Weight to be taken as ready to race with a full tank of fuel.
 There is no allowance for wet conditions.
13) The maximum engine size is    - 3.55 cc (or 0.214cu ins.)
 If more than one engine is used, then the total capacity must not exceed this limit.
 The centre line of the cylinder must be mounted on the right hand side of the car.
 (looking from the rear).
14) Any 3.55cc engine may be used, with any carburator combination.
15) The engine must be silenced to the satisfaction of the race organisers, but must 
 be below 80db at 10 metres, or 100db, to be measured 1 metre high, and 1 metre from
 the trackside.
16) All exhaust pipes must point downwards when fitted in the car. All exhaust systems
 must be contained within the body shell, except for the outlet pipe.
17) No chain driven cars may compete.
18) The power source of all cars at a race meeting will be I/C engines only.
19) Brakes may be fitted.
20) External roll bars are not allowed for racing.
21) Any part of the car may be substituted during a meeting, except the chassis.
22) Cars are limited to front wheel steering, with rear wheel drive, via a non-flexible 
 solid rear axle, with no ball races or needle bearings to be used on axles or wheels, 
 or any differentials/limited slip devices.
 The front suspension must use a fixed wishbone configuration.
23) No tyre additives to be used.
24) Cars must be fitted with a one piece body shell of plastic or fibre glass,
 recognizable as being in line with rule 1.
25) Gearboxes/multi-drive units are not permitted for racing. 
 All cars will drive through a single gear, single belt configuration.
26) The maximum price of the chassis shall not exceed 50 pounds sterling U.K.The cost
 of the chassis will be raised by the rate of inflation each year.The Section Committee
 will be responsible for setting the maximum price.
27) Engine protectors may be fitted, but they must run along side the body shell, and
 must have no sharp edges.The practice of using bolts with the head uppermost is 
 strictly prohibited. 

 THESE CONSTRUCTION RULES ARE FOR THE IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION AND APPLY UNTIL THE
 1999 AGM, OR CONFERENCE OF THE SECTION.

                                 

WEMSA RULES. - USED IN EUROPEAN, and WORLD COMPETITIONS.

                      WEMSA CONSTRUCTION RULES
 
* Models are to be 1/8th scale and a reasonable reproduction of a full sized stockcar
(note:"reasonable reproduction", means bodyshell must not have wheel covers or extend 
over side bumpers). The drivers full name, and racing number must be on the outside of the 
cars bodyshell. 
* Overall length to be between 41 cm and 45cm. 
* Overall width to be a maximum of 21 cm - 24cm. 
* Maximum weight of car to be 3.9Kg. Minimum weight of car to be 3.5Kg. Weight
to be taken as ready to race, with a full tank of fuel. 
* Front and rear bumpers must be fitted, and with a touching surface of between 
12mm to l9mm. The distance between the bumper underside and the ground must 
be 3cm minimum. All bumpers, chassis and rails must be plugged, filled and have 
no sharp edges (including antenna). 
* Over-riders must be fitted to front and rear bumpers. The height from the top 
of the bumpers must be 5cm maximum for both front and rear, and 1.5cm minimum. 
* Side bumpers must be on the same level as the front and rear bumpers, and have
a touching surface of 6mm, or 6mm diameter to 12mm (1/2inch) maximum. 
* Tyres may have a maximum width of 35mm. 
* The maximum engine size is 3.5 cc or 0.214Cu lns of single cylinder construction. 
* The engines must be silenced to the satisfaction of the WEMSA Representatives. 
* The Iimits will be 
a) In Holland : 80dB at 7 metres, or 100dB at 1 metre, at 1 metre high. 
b) In United Kingdom: 80dB at 10 metres, or 100dB at 1 metre, at 1 metre high. 
* All parts of the exhaust system must be inside the bodyshell, or under the car. 
 
* The height of the body, from the top of the body to the top of the chassis is 
limited to 8.5cm minimum, and 13cm maximum. 
* External roll bars are not permitted when racing. 
* Spoilers/Aerofoils may be fitted, but must not extend beyond the outer edges 
of the chassis or bumpers. They must be made of plastic not metal. There is no height
limit to the spoiler, spoilers must be painted in the same colour as the drivers roof grade. 
* No electric stock cars may compete at WEMSA Championships. 
* Roof number fins are optional. lf used, they will be plastic. 
* No chain driven cars will be allowed to compete. 
* The chassis must be made of steel. 
* Exhaust pipes must not point upwards and must be contained completely within the bodyshell.

* No brakes will be allowed during WEMSA Championships. * No differentials will be allowed in any part of the car. * No tyre additives are allowed. * Engines, gearing and transmission must be inside the chassis rails, any unorthodox construction will be subject to WEMSA approval. * Only single gear/direct drive cars, using a single belt will be allowed to race. * Bearings may be used on the running gear of the car. * Any part of the car may be substituted during a meeting, with the exception of the chassis. *Wheelbase can be any length providing the wheels are kept within the confines of the chassis. IN THE CASE OF THESE RULES BEING INSUFFICIENT, THE RACE CONTROL DECISION WILL BE FINAL !
