Fraserburgh   Running   Club's   Crazed   Homepage!!

Fraserbrugh Running club is a small Athletics club in the North East of Scotland there is about 20 members and although there is a very small membership number we are still a very succesful club when we travel to events such as the Scottish Championships. Plus a lot of the time we have to get up at extremely early times, but for us commited runners it doesn't really matter. We train twice a week and we always train to our highest standards and even though it is 3 foot deep snow we are still out pounding away trying in Ernest to improve our times by the odd Hundredth of a second!! So please read on untill the end of this page and get back to me and tell me how much you like it.!!!

When   Where   and   Why   we   run!!!!!

We at Fraserburgh Running club are a very tight organisation where everyone is friends, and on race days we all help each other to warm up and make sure that they know where they are going. It is a shame that a lot of people do not run, because all that you need is a pair of suitable running trainers and somewhere to run, but with a lot of other sports you need expensive equipment to play competitively. Running is one of the most simple sports to compete in whether you are a Sunday Morning runner or an elite Runner in the London Marathon, are a young runner starting out in the sport, or an Olympic Athlete that can run 800m in under 2 minutes. Joining a club was probably the wisest decision that I have made in my running career. Running with fellow athletes instead of by yourself is a great morale booster if you are struggling because they will pull you along and you seem to get a second wind, as opposed to solo running where you can be on your own for anything up to 3 hours which can get very boring if you have no one to keep pace with. It will also reflect in your times, running with a group of people will reduce times dramatically which afterall is one of the main points of running behind, getting and keeping fit, and most importantly of all having fun and making sure that you enjoy yourself so that every run is not a torture. Also if you are a runner it is a good way to see a lot of the country you stay in, I have been to over 50 destinations in Scotland in the past 4 years that I have been running and I have seen a lot more than I thought was possible but it is one of the highlights of competitive running. I suppose it was because of luck that I got started running, I was at a primary schools race at a North town, and I came eleventh in my first ever race, the in my second race I came second, and at that time I was spotted by a runner from Fraserburgh Running Club. So, I went along to the club for about a month and then it was time to run for my primary school again, and to mine and my schools surprise I came first, the first and only person from my school to come first in a race (my school did only have 27 pupils). One Saturday came my first chance to run for the Running Club, lining up on the starting line, with 20 other runners all anxious to get going round the 1 mile course that Under-11’s had to compete. BANG!! Went the gun and seven minutes later I crossed the line in first place to give myself and my parents a big shock, and ever since then I have been Hooked on the sport. I am now in my second season in the U17 age catagory and I am improving greatly with my 800M, getting my time down another 7 seconds in the past season. The running club continues to meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays, we dont get as big a turnout as we used to, but we still come out running and try our best to fight against the poor weather conditions that often make it harder to run, but we can cope we are Scottish.
