BR Standard Class 7
The "Britannia" aka BR Standard Class 7 locomotive seems to be of renewed interest in Model Engineering circles at the moment. In part this may be due to the Winson Model Technology’s "bolt together kit". Both this model and that built to the rather similar Norman Spink design can be criticised on some points as departing from the original.
Two of the class survive. One (70000 "Britannia") is at the Nene Valley Railway (
www.internetlink.co.uk/nvr.htm) and the other, 70013 "Oliver Cromwell", is at (www.bressingham.co.uk). Neither are currently in working condition and have been subject to modification over the years. The photographs show some features which may help in producing a more authentic model.
Doug Hewson's web page (
www.the-hewsons.demon.co.uk) is strongly recommended as a source of components to builders of 5" gauge versions. The Photographs
Unfortunately 70013 was stored in a rather dark shed with, at some points, limited access; hence the poor photographs. Click on an image for a larger picture.
This site is at an early stage of development. Further and better particulars follow, I hope, soon.
