Welcome to this exciting sport which combines the grace and beauty of sailing with the speed and thrills of motor racing. Modern sand or land yachts can be propelled by winds of less than 10 mph and can travel at between 2 and 3 times the speed of the wind, reaching speeds in excess of 60 mph. It is far from easy to convey the thrill of sailing a deserted beach whilst harnessing the power of the wind so.....
Come and try it with the Brean Land Yacht Club
The club has been sailing at Brean since September 1970 and meets every Sunday. Based in the southwest of England, in Somerset's cider country within easy reach of junction 22 M5 motor way.
Land Yachting is one of only a few sports where women can compete on equal terms with men, and children with adults. Strength does not really come into it, however weight is one of the critical factors. Land Yachting can be for anyone, with ages ranging from 10 to 70 years.
Two main classes of yacht are sailed in this country, Class III with 7.35 square meters of sail and Class V with 5.00 square meters.
Class V
Class III
Learning to sail is a relatively simple matter. All visitors are welcome and yachts are available for training purposes with qualified instructors at hand.
For the younger sailor a smaller and lighter class known as a Dragon Fly is available, it is easy to control and suited to the smaller frame.

Brean also has a specially adapted Class V for the handicapped sailor, with hand controls, padded support and monitored by a trained instructor.
